Monday's moods!

This has been a blessed day.......slow and easy!

These kinds of days are infrequent and

are cherished!

I had all the usual housekeeping chores, shopping,

banking, and other responsibilities but it was

a day that could only be described as easy.

I wish all of you a joyful day, tomorrow!

Peace..............

We had fun today.  Went to Sam's Club and tooled around for quite a while.  My mother went with us.  I took her a pillow to sit on and a bottle of cold water and she watched people while we shopped.  There is a place where people eat their lunch and she can sit there but the benches are hard, hense the pillow.

We bought lots of junk and some important stuff! lol  But we got out of the house and did something different.  The only problem is the gas we spend going that far at $3.00 a gallon!

Our electric bill will be out of this world this month !  We have had to run the airconditioner and the additional unit night and day!  The nights are not cooling off and it is so hot and dry.  It did shower one evening this week but it was only a shower and if  you had been using soap, you would still be soapy!

Of course, 5:30 came and the cats gathered on the patio for tea.

Of course we had the tea and they had yummy chow with a can of chicken dinner mixed in!  "Hisser Cat"(because she hisses instead of meowing) came much earlier and I gave her a can of sardines with oil that I purchased just for her.

She injured her led this spring and a growth covers the leg and she cleans it off ever so often and then has a very painful leg for awhile.  I would take her to a vet but catching her would be a real trick.  She will let me get close and I have on occasion touched her gently but she is very skitish.  In fact one of mother's renters went to the garage to get some equipment that he keeps there she attacked him!  He came back and asked if we were keeping attack cats.  Of course her kittens were there.  I can only imagine the danger of trying to pick her up and put her in a carrier.  Perhaps in time she will trust me enough.  BUT SHE LOVED THE SARDINES!

The cats have adjurned from tea to the tree trenches for a cool evening in the damp soil under the trees and in the ditches.  We used to go sit in the "park" under the elm trees but it is too hot now to even go outside till much later in the evening.

My lawn mower has been quite contrary lately and I was told that engine starter would help me start the thing with much less frustration.  We will see!

Peace..........

The hint of thunder showers was only a hint!

There is a breeze and the sun is bright making all the wonderful shade trees so welcome.  I see so often the neighbor animals wandering into our yard stopping at anyone of the five watering holes that we have.

Jack was out in the yard this morning helping me get the lawn mower started.  Glad he has strong arms, because sometimes I get tired of pulling on the cord. Yesterday was so much fun doing things without planning, that we tried some different activities today, like Jack going outside to help.  He seldom goes out because the heat and humidity are so high.

Waiting for the visiting nurse to arrive, and after that?????Who can tell!

Thursday............another hot day forecast with a hint of thunder showers!

Would love one of the lovely Oklahoma Summer Thunder Storms.  The thunder and lightening are spectacular and the showers are so wonderful for the thirsty earth.  We don't care for the severe storms where damage happens but the rain storms are really exciting.

It is 5:30 in the morning and the best part of the day, Jack and I have time to talk and think about what we will do today.

Yesterday was really spontaneous----the ambulance went flying up to our corner with siren blaring.  Thinking it was returning to the lady a block away (it was called yesterday for her), I was lamenting her condition when the ambulance went  north instead of south.  I told Jack that I wondered if it was another neighbor and decided I would get the car out and check.  Hee hee, I asked him if he wanted to go along, so pulled up to the door and let the ramp down and he rolled right in.  We found where the ambulance stopped and saw that the sheriff was there, too.  In California we got fire dept, police, ambulance, the whole support group.  Jack was laughing when we got home that his daughter in California would never believe that he was an ambulance chaser.  I said in a town this small, it had to be your neighbor and that wasn't ambulance chasing.

Later I drove by the place again and found a neighbor out in the yard and asked if she knew which family member went to the hospital, she didn't but  we got acquainted anyway.  In a town this size you need to know your neighbors.  While visiting another neighbor came by and said another ambulance had come and taken the first neighbor to the hospital.  Later in the morning, my mother and I went 10 miles to the hospital and checked on that neighbor and then boug groceries.

Felt really bad that I had neglected another cancer patient who lives several blocks away.  Went by and he was sitting in his garage breezeway.  His first words were : "Hey girl, haven't seen you in a long time."  Well, I take him pie or cake when I bake so I sat a minute and listened to his woes and then went home and brought him some lunch.  He said he had food but really didn't feel like fixing it because he usually fell while trying to do anything.  He said he hadn't eaten much in several days and my food really looked good cause he was hungry.  I admonished him to not ever go hungry, to call and we would share whatever we were eating.............I can't believe that his family here in town really neglect him.

Jack is doing more work on his music and contacting people by phone then in the past few months.  He called a favorite cousin in Penn. and she and her sister were coming to Dallas so will probably come by here.  He is excited thinking he might get a long visit with this tomboy cousin that he grew up with.

We also talked to an Uncle from Penn. who is now in a care facility in Somerset,  Pa. We always enjoyed  visiting them in their woodsy little cabin in the same area.  The place looked like he felled only enough trees for a clearing and the little house and garden area was so pleasant.  But his wife has sundowners disease so he moved into the same facility to be near her.

Time to go for the mail, daily routine, water, put out the trash for weekly collection, and see what I can get into today.  Thinking about painting lawn chairs and maybe cleaning in the barn....... ambitious?  Not very! lol

At the doctor's office this morning..........

Doctor Cooper:"I will meet you at the front desk".

(I wondered what was wrong.)

Doctor Cooper:"It is so evident that you love your husband a great deal."

Me:"I didn't know it showed."

Doctor Cooper:"It is so evident and so wonderful to see."

Wow did that make my day!

But now I am trying to figure out what he saw, what I did, since I didn't do anything different??????

The rest of the day was running around getting new batteries which was not the problem, but a bad charging unit........but we have fresh batteries and a charging unit on order and a chair that needs to run the batteries down because they are new and need to be run way down before they are recharged.....And the second doctor's appointment was cancelled and that made the rest of the less stressful..........YOU can only run so far!

Sunday, July 23, 2006

another crisis.............

The power chair won't take a charge.........have appointments with two doctors tomorrow.

Which do I cancel first?

Where do I get new batteries installed in chair?

Where can I run away and hide and not handle yet another crisis?

Why don't power chairs tell you when they need new batteries?

Oh well tomorrow is another day!

It rained! Not a lot but I didn't have to water yesterday.  But this morning starts the routine with the waterhose and the cats! LOL

Interesting development!  This little town of 200 people including all the cats and dogs, has a pretty good volunteer fire department!  They are really volunteer, not even the water bill is given to them for their service.  However, they live close by.

One lives two or three houses to the west, the other about two or three houses to the east.    The acting fire chief lives behind us across the alley in the worst fire hazard in town (lol).  Anyway there was a fire in an adjacent lot by us.

Here farmers just buy a vacant lot and park their equipment that is no longer in use (aka junk).  There were three abandoned pickups and lots of farm equipment.  Well, there are two burned out cabs and some well blackened stuff out there now.

We were laughing at the view from our house.  Anyway you look you see something you wish you didn't see.  But lately people have been cleaning up and fixing up.  Even the firechief has been cleaning up his piles of stuff.  He is also the town maintenance worker and has all the town equipment at his disposal.  Guess that helps a lot when  you see the town's equipment busy at his house.  I won't complain much cause they have mowed one of our empty lots that was between us and the fire.  I was glad to see that had the fire spread it probably would have been easily controlled on our lots.

The county deputy sheriff was there and both he and one of the neighbors decided it was kids smoking or firecrackers that we still have going off every evening.  Anyway when the firemen and firechief all live in a stone's throw it helps.  You can guess the cost of fire insurance with just a volunteer fire department.

With the rain, lightening, and thunder that gave us such a lovely display, the volunteer fire fighters and the city tanker went out to put out pasture fires.  City dwellers probably don't even think about the hazards out in the COUNTRY USA! lol

Tomorrow  we go to two doctors, starting at 8:30 for primary doctor and then driving an hour and a half to see cardo/vascular specialist for 1 pm appointment.  Have to have mother's lunch arranged so I don't worry about her.

Jack is back to working on his music.  I dug out the cases and cases of tapes and he is listening and planning what music to use, etc.  He hasn't used the program tapes for a long time and his breathing  exercises and scales are going to be a challenge.  But it will keep him out of pool halls and off the streets! lol   He needs some goals and projects to help him manage his pain and discomfort,  Maybe this will help...................Peace.

Making decisions about voting............

Jack told me to be sure he had a quarter when we went to vote next Tuesday.  We don't have a valid drivers license but we are registered voters......oh well.

I asked why he needed a quarter( Jack seldom carries any $$$).  He said to vote! I have this stupid look on my face trying to figure out what one had to do with the other. Seeing the expression on my face....he laughed and went through the motions of throwing the quarter up and deciding heads or tails.  We know so few and   even though we have talked to lots of others about the candidates as well as some of the candidates there are numerous ones we have no idiea who are.......so THE TOSS OF A COIN!

Who are we, What are we,Where are we-----Jack and Sue in search for themselves.

The big mess over the driver's license really smacked Jack where he lives.

From being a Valid California Driver he became a medically  handicapped individual who doesn't even have an identity.  Sometimes I am surprised how he takes these situations.   Depressed is a good description I think.

The Highway Patrol didn't even have van accessible parking and only two little handicapped spaces.  Jack had to devan and invan out in the street or driveway.  Let's see should I turn them in to the Federal Government for not complying -------maybe I better wait till we get finished with everything! LOL

We are finding lots of places not wheelchair accessible or not van accessible, here in Oklahoma.  I had attended several hearings in California by a lawyer who was pushing accessibility.  At that time I was not as easily drawn into verbal confrontation as I am now.  I love telling businesses now, can't do business with you---you are not wheelchair accessible.  Peace..............

....I should listen to that myself! LOL

We were up at four this morning because we wanted to be in Altus before 7 this morning.  That is the time the highway patrol opens for driver's licenses.  Well,  we were there.

The  doors are opened by Oklahoma City Headquarters and not local people, guess they close the same way! lol  Of course we waited till the tiny green light came on so we could enter.  The place was quite small considering all the neighboring cities  driver license examination and renewal offices had been closed.  Anyway the computers were DOWN.  This is the link with Boston so they can check  to see if we are federal felons?  I think something like that.  Anyway they did  what they called  a file  and messed around till 8:15 and  after that time they said Jack would have to have a physical by a doctor because he didn't lie.  He said he had Parkinson's but a very minimal condition.   WE SHOULD HAVE LIED!  Now if you remember Jack couldn't see one doctor because he didn't have a valid Oklahoma Driver's License.  Now he must see his primary care doctor to get a physical before he can get a license to see another doctor?????

We  went to Denny's and had some breakfast and came  back just as the computers came up.  I got my paper work and went to the TAG OFFICE  to have my license finished and made.

While at Denny's  my husband observed a little lady obviously up in possible late 80 or early 90's and she was so cold.  She was sitting in the path of an airconditoner.  The man and woman with her were oblivious to her painfully cold condition.  He mentioned how uncomfortable she looked and  no one seemed concerned.  Oooooh wellllll, the caregiver in me went into action and to the van opening on of the bags we carry and pulled out a rather worn but clean  blanket.  Went back in and offered it to the gentleman saying it wasn't pretty but was clean and warm.  I said we didn't need it back but the lady was obviously cold.  He ASKED her would you like to have something around you? She was only able to nod without shaking.  What planet are people from?  They were only aware of their own comfort.  Not regular caregivers for sure!

At the tag office they did all the same stuff again, asked for 4.00 and began to generate plastic.  I asked about handicap tags and they said they were useless because we had to have a placard.  In california you have handicap license tags and then you don't have to always have that placard which I often forget to hang up.

Anyway we give them 50 dollars and they gave up Oklahoma car tags with a 35 dollar discount because our van has a ramp.  I asked what do we do about handicap parking until we get placard and the agent asked if we didn't have an old one.  Well, I did have a California one that is good till June of 2007.  At least that will get us through.  But had more paper work to be signed by a doctor.

LISTEN-----------DON'T CHANGE STATES!

We made a stop at the doctor's office and left the stack of paper work and said we would pick it up and mail it on Monday at the regular office appointmemt;

Fixed lunch for mother when I got home and the rest of the day should be a SNAP! lol

Peace  and cool weather to all of  you!

Those of you who have been visiting thanks. I can't respond because of a  pop-up block.   Just wanted to say thanks and  would like to know more about you, sue.

We had a wonderful "walk together" today.  Actually Jack slipped in 4 steps with the cane this morning.   I am upset that he tries this when I am otherwise tied up because it is dangerous in my opinion but I am fighting "city hall", so to speak.

Our trip to Lawton was long and hot, 106, but the doctor said he was doing fine and didn't need him at this point.  Just continue doing what we were doing and gave me full charge and responsibility of deciding how much and how often he would need medication for parkinson's.  Of course he must have realized how much experience I had with this cause he said mix 25/100 and 25/250  Sinemet and keep a balance on his needs.  And not to give him a certain number of pills just because a doctor said so, judge the need of the patient. This doctor is considered the best in the area and he truly made patients feel important, listened, asked questions, and gave up confidence.  Thanks, Dr. Renia!  This was an initial visit referred from our primary doctor and a little stressing, the distance, the heat, new building, had to find entrance, no handicap parking available, etc.  All these things can add up as all you well know.

Tomorrow we go for our VALID OKLAHOMA STATE DRIVERS LICENSE! lol  They make them right on the spot I am told, there is no test, no stress, no mess, and you walk out with a horrible picture but a piece of valid plastic.

Well, cross you fingers it cools off before morning.....peace in the Oklahoma plains and elsewhere!

And all you wonderful visitors, thanks for coming by, return as often as you like, it is so like having someone ring the door bell.

Jack's legs are definitely on the mend!

This afternoon is predicted to be 107 degrees and we have an hour and a half drive to see a new doctor.  They called to remind yesterday between people arriving and departing.

We have already had the therapist this morning and the rest of the time is "down time" since the afternoon is going to be stressing somewhat.

Jack has had some problems with focusing, he seems to be in a fog I suggested that he rest and maybe he would wake up.........hope this clears before I have to drag him out in the heat.

Blessings and peace from the plains to the  west and east coasts and the mountains between..................

the Manitou Canel...........

Digging trenches has become a enormous project especially with the help of four legged engineers.  This morning I had the three babies out helping oversee the project.  Of course they aren't old enough to recognize and appreciate water in the form of rain....... this stuff out of a hose is fascinating and cool!  Ooh, by the way those were kitty babies about 3 months old.

Think those cats and kittens aren't therapy.  Everyone asked about the cats and the babies and did they get enough to eat and here is some milk I saved from my cereal, etc.   Jack makes his way to the door and patio to SEE what is happening with the cats.  When there isn't much else to watch they provide interesting and entertaining  amusements.

Thank goodness for those running for office.  Today the nicest guy came to the door, came in and said he was running for office of_______and I asked him to sit because I had some questions for him.  He was out on 105 weather asking for votes .  Either he is crazy or working to win!   Well after talking to him he will get the vote of everyone in this house. LOL  But the neat thing was he was another person Jack knows here.     When you are new and lonesome everyone becomes a potential friend or at least a good acquaintance.

Another visitor was one of mother's farm renters and he stayed for quite awhile.  I offered him ice tea and lunch and he said no to the lunch but yes to ice tea.  Later I reminded him I made a mean roast beef sandwich and he said could he have the roast  beef?  Interesting, I cut him three slices and he munched them right down with the ice tea.

Here if anyone comes it is custom to offer them drink, food, meal if close to one, and it always provides an interesting experience.

We couldn't go to the doctor's appointment today, it was cancelled because we didn't have our valid OKLAHOMA drivers license.  LOL  We have valid California license but those don't count.  And there is no test just do the paper work and they m the license  right there on the spot!

Tomorrow we see doctor who will monitor jacks's parkinsons.  That should be fairly straight forward, no mention of drivers license. lol

Peace from the Oklahoma Plains to where ever you might be....................

Caregiving and receiving...............

When the patient makes an effort to give to the caregiver a gift of time or help in some way...........the caregiver must recognize and receive that gift with the relish and joy with which it was given.

My mother loves to fold clothes, peel the potatoes, stir the soup, boil the eggs and peel them also, sweep the floor and numerous other helpful things.  She is helping do her own breakfast, but she has gotten used to and enjoys me fixing it as she drinks that first cup of coffee.   She needs the stimulas and satisfaction of helping me.  I must remember this and thank her.

It is easy to accept Jack's help and express  my  joy in his growth in efforts to do more things.  He has always been my helpmate in all ways.

No mater the level of assistance, the patient needs to feel apart and not just a useless thing that is being taken care of.  Sometimes  Mom tells me over and over what she has done...........warning sign I haven't  recognized the effort.

Peace from our house in the plains to yours  wherever it might beeeeee...

It is hot but a beautiful morning never the less.

I don't know why but you often find a negative atmosphere in these little depressed towns.  I guess that is the answer right there, depressed.  Some of the people are upbeat and doing things to make this a lovely little town.  They keep their lawns mowed, they plant flowers and trade seeds with others, they walk with their children and talk to their neighbors, they smile and wave, and do their jobs with a sense of accomplishment.

Then there is: "It sure is hot, was hot yesterday, and will be hot tomorrow.  Never rains, guess we will all blow away, etc."  And strangely enough all those facts are probably true but it is the constant reaffirming the negative that is so tiring.

Our new neighbor seems to be very upbeat!  He has a positive about the business he bought and is planning some vast changes and improvements.  This is such  a welcome relief.  I have always been a goal oriented person and have to have that carrot out in front of me........to see people with no carrot is really a terrible thing.

I know this is hard to believe, but when I went to water this morning my four legged engineers were on hand and available for consultation.  Of course the running water was interesting as were the leaves that floated in the stream of water.  But the testing of the water with paws and then flopping down in the trench where the water was only a trickle was absolutely funny.

I cleaned out the frig........don't laugh...there were only a few science experiments there!  But because Jack is being so helpful I decided to change his water bottles to a more convenient place and make room for any lunch I might leave if I had to be away at meal time.   This happened one evening and my mom drove him nuts asking if he was ready to eat.........so after this  he is on his own! lol

ONE OF THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNED: keep records and make time lines that you will need later.  Why is it when you have to visit a doctor for the first time they was a history that they never look at but still is required.  This time the time line is recorded in black and white in my place for important stuff!  Now I have been doing this stuff long enough to have learned this decades ago.....but you always think this time is the last time I will need to write all this stuff down but it isn't!!!!

.........dirt from my nose to my toes!

The elm trees are really stressing out, losing their leaves, evicting the birds, ignoring the ants that crawl up their limbs......they are in a terrible plight!

Sssssssooooooo  I with help from the other residents of this house am going to water the trees! We have talked about the trees now for a week, but last night at 8:30 after I had bathed and prepared for an evening of relaxing, my mother decided we should drag the hoses out and water the trees.   She had already been to bed and decided to get up and do this thing!   Needless to say with advise from the sidewalk engineers, I went out and made a trench ( I like to call it a moat ) around the largest elm and started the water.   AND I sent my 87 year old mother back to bed content in the knowledge she had managed another project! LOL

However I found this morning the trickle of water wasn't going anywhere-----SOOOOOOOOO again I dug more on the trench( I had the help on site of several four legged helpers that proceeded to put the dirt back almost as quick as I dug it out).

Now I have three trenches around three trees and several muddy cats who think that running water is great to play in and rolling in the ditches is a quick cool off and fun place.

I am happy to report that my hubby has taken to taking his dirty dishes to the sink and getting his own cool drinks from the fridge. This power chair ~~~~~this house~~~~~this time~~~~~and the desire to save me dozens of steps has enpowered him to try lots of things.

Where we lived in California the layout of the house was not really condusive to him buzzing around much, and I really didn't need all the assistance.  Wow, I do need it now and he is coming through like a trooper.  Thanks Jack!

Jack sees me doing so many more things than I have not had to do in the past that it is stressing him out~~~~~and I love the way he is handling the stress! LOL  He even has talks with my mother telling her she better treat me good! LOL

Home nursing evaluator came this am and cleared Jack for another round of therapy and a couple of between visits so there will be continuity.  The nurse has been delayed several hours because they sent her to a patient quite some distance.  Anyway, so far it hasn't been a  bad day, and I will go play in the mud again!

The sun came up hot....the forcast is for 106 but a neighboring town had 111 yesterday!

Thought cool color might make me feel cooler......we are staying in and close to cooling units today.  Have nurse and evaluator coming today so that is fine, it isn't as if we have to do anything special.

Fixed lunch at 6 this morning.............made  mac and cheese casserole, might add baked beans and definately a cool salad.   If I put a roast in the crockpot then we could have roast beef over the weekend.  Jack is good at helping me plan something easy so I don't have to cook so much.  With dishwashers, washers, dryers, and all the conviences, why do we seem to always be so busy?????

Jack is snoozing and when he is napping he doesn't hurt, thank goodness for the peace of sleep.

INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT:

Jack  has been taking on another responsibility.  Since he is using his  power chair instead of his wheel chair to sit in, he can scamper around our wing of the house more.  He is taking care of more of his personal things especially when I happen to be away.  He has been encouraging me to be gone longer lengths of time and this helps me as well as giving his esteme a big kick in the pants.  He could not do this with a walker or the wheel chair, so the power chair is really coming into its own!

The therapist was here for the last time, but the evaluator called and will be here tomorrow to see what we do next.  THE LEGS SEEM TO BE HEALING! This is a slow process but makes us really happy.

IT IS 105 DEGREES HERE TODAY!

Just thought you would feel sorry for us! <smiles>  Gave the cats and kittens fresh cold water and early food tonight.  They dwell in a barn that is made of in part of metal so we keep fans and other aminities available for the cats! lol

Waiting for the rain in the plains..............

The caregiver's thoughts

...time lingered,
hours whirled the days into nothingness,
the minutes of night drag
and then sleep sweeps them past

 that which was slow
had quickly disappeared.
and then again,
time lingered.

Perhaps we would all be more comfortable with a shower to cool off the Plains and to give drinks to the trees and grass.  The grass doesn't bother me but when the trees lose their leaves this early I become worried.

One of the things I have to do everyday is to water the plants we have put out since I got here.  Mother enjoyed the plants so much in the begin but it is so hot now she doesn't get out too much to look.

Perhaps this will become "Marigold House".  My plans are to surround the house with marigold as well as other flowers but the marigold seem to handle the hot sun so much better than other plants.   Even with constant watering the plants wilt down and look so sad.

Jack had a better day yesterday, morphine patch cut down on the percocet but then the morphine makes his nausea return with a vengeance.

I think tomorrow will be the last day for the therapist, not sure how they operate here.  Maybe they will re-evaluate Jack and start the program again.  The wounds are not healed but are better .

It is good to see Jack tooling around our wing of this house.   He has a couple of doors to look out of and can walk with his walker to the kitchen on somedays when the pain is under control.  If the contractor ever comes back with an estimate perhaps the new patio breakfast room will add to his enjoyment to being almost outdoors.  Going out is feasible when the weather is cooperative but not in this heat.  So a good view helps one feel not quite so closed in.

Mother had a bad night, the death of one of her peers has put her in a melancoly mood and she was restless all night.  This always means she is up early and not always functioning as well as she can.

Walking with my broken toe has made me walk on my foot in an unusual way and now the foot hurts other than the toe.  I sometimes had hardly stand to put my foot down to walk, so staying off of it as much as I can.

Just looked at weather report...no rain!

And the days become hotter and longer.............

Whether the days become longer in hours or just longer emotionally is a matter of debate.  I understand most of the things that are happening, yet the ability to handle varies from day to day.

I had that inner alarm to awaken this morning to find Jack having some uncomfortable situations which I tried to alleviate.  I doled out medication for pain , and Parkinson's  since his arm that has tremors hurt so badly.  This also demanded medication for nausea for the morphine.

Then Mother gets up at three and decides it is time to take a bath and clean her room, etc.  It is her house, her life, if she wants to do these things at 3am it is her choice but I felt the need to make coffee, go get the newspaper and generally stay awake and alert as she takes a tub bath in she ran into difficulties.

Now it is after 4 and too late to really go back to bed.  It is hot, has been gently raining but not cooling off at all, but becoming humid.

Actually the cats also decided it was time for a prebreakfast snack which I gave them because I am an easy touch.

It is interesting to see how well we are adjusting in some ways to this community.  We have visitors most days, someone bringing their pizza for our late night snack and then just sat and visited about California.  This person had lived close to where we had lived and enjoyed talking about restaurants and places to go.

Another was the Avon lady which I have started buying from for a number of reasons other than using Avon, she is knowledgable about the community, has an information system,(not gossip) and was helpful to Mother before we arrived.

Another was one of Mother's farm renters who came by to borrow and stayed and talked for hours with Jack.  A great boon to someone who seldom gets out.

The community responds to deaths  and funerals by providing means and various services and the need arose this week with the loss of another 97 year old resident.   This will be an event that we will participate in at some level.

Yesterday at the bank, the teller introduced herself as the daughter of the neighbors who just sold their home across the street from where we live.  She had been there when I provided boxes, etc. on Sunday.  It is a small world in country USA.  The buyer of that house will be moving in on Saturday and also operating the only real business in this town, a country store.

Mother is up and lights are blazing but I am hiding at the computer in the dark, so nice and private when you have only a screen lighted.  I decided to not attach the speakers when we moved because sometimes the temptation to have sound was not always compatable with the situation.

Well, it is 4:30.  Time to face the masses and start the day, therapist comes at 8 and then I have a list of things that need to be completed sometime today.  It is supposed to be 104 heat indext.  Turn up the air-conditioner and hide within the walls.  Blessings............

.....country.......ahhhhhhh bliss

I can't believe some days!

I believe I mentioned that Mother fell again and is a bit wobbly on her legs.  Sometimes a startling noise like a phone ringing can make her lose her balance.

Farmer's market today, we went last week and loaded up on fresh fruit and veggies.  It was a great outing and tastie as well.

We need to make a dry-run to Lawton to see about times, traffic, and locations of the doctor's offices that we will be visiting the week of the 17th.

The first is Pain Management.  That one will be interesting since they want to know what I do to help divert Jack's attention and help with the pain.  Some of the questions are rather invasive in my opinion but we will see.

One of the doctors is a cardio/vascular specialist and is touted to be the best in the area.

The neurologist will also be the same week and has a great reputation.  So maybe somethings are looking up for us.

Mother's farm renter came by to discuss business yesterday and she is attempting to do this without a hearing aid.......it occured to me that I was shouting and wondered why....sent her off to get ear piece!  I get tired being the record that goes  round and round and repeats, repeats, repeats, repeats repeatssss..................

....and then there was more!

Well yesterday we have two drops of rain, I am exaggerating, there were about three!

Since  Mother fell on the third, I have been so cautious about leaving her any length of time, and she has decided that walking a distance to get the newspaper each morning in the dark ( she doesn't see well in the day time) at 3 in the morning probably isn't the wisest thing to do.

She said she would let me do it.... and I informed her that if I fell because of a rock or stone, or stepped in a hole, just who would come looking for me? I would wait till the sun came up! lol

Nothing new is happening, we got a call a few minutes after 8 yesterday.  It was a doctor asking if we could move our appointment from 12:30 to 8:30 that morning.  A doctor we had never heard of, had no notice of an appointment, and referred from a doctor we did not know.  Oh well, it was a referral from Jack's doctor but a bit of a mix up.  Of course this doctor is  almost an hour and a half away at a hospital we don't know where it, and he is a heart surgeon?  That was taken care of also!

While on the phone with the doctor's nurse I asked about a prescription that did not seem correct, she checked and the pharmacy had given us the wrong meds.  I  had to drive to the next town, about 12 miles away and ask the pharmac to check his records and yeah he had made a mistake, now I have to go back when he gets a shipment in and pick up the right stuff!  This this the third mistake.....and since we live on the prarie should I be concerned?

Therapist and nurse both arrive today and I am going to let them take care of the wound dressing.  We received the lower leg wraps this week and with those came the new compression stockings.  We were in need of these expensive items( about $550) and not sure if we get any help on the cost.  But so worth the cost when they do the job.

I am covered with these bumps caused by Oklahoma wild things that fly and bite.  Not sure which of the wild things it is that is chewing on me so.  I have encountered the yellow-jacket, hornet, or dirt dobber, or something that was yellow and hurt like heck.  Clorox helped a lot on the sting but it itched and was swollen for days.  This is country USA!
